Muqtalif, which means different is formed by three very different people who have found a way to remember some musicians and songs. We are back in Atta Galatta with newer songs and a promise to beat the summer heat with some cool presentation of thoughts and feelings by the coolest of poets who mustn’t, yes, mustn’t gather dust on the pages!
These are songs that are meant to celebrate the heartaches and the bad decisions and the glorious mistakes that now can’t be unmade. Life in its entire package includes colours of gloom that are either kept inside old diaries or stacked above old furniture in the attic, it is our attempt to clean the dust off the old diary and feel the now yellowed pages and smell the air that once was new.
We try to make our musical performance, also a visual one incorporating ideas of colours, lights and theatre by combining some darling ghazals and some forgotten stories and seeing it through some dim lights. Our songs are in Urdu and Hindi and we will let the language be. It is from a time when the world held values very different from the current world that we live in. The people who made these songs, the singers - the composers - the lyricists were trying to pass that big pill around, making one pause to rethink trials and weaknesses and celebrate the silences.
We are 3 of us. Shreyas plays the tabla, Dheeraj Bannerjea plays the classical guitar and Aparupa the singer, aiming to draw some simple triangles in the current performance spaces that have far discovered Polygons and conic sections!
The set played this time will be different from all previous events!
