I humbly invite you to Atta Galatta to take this journey with me on the path of finding these humble treasures by simply READING PLAYS! When we READ A PLAY, as a whole - unlike a book that one would often read at intervals - we take an arduous journey, to a certain end. When we READ AS A GROUP, we hear the voices of different actors (and/or slash readers), registering the voice of individual characters in the play. 

READING PLAYS as an activity in groups, has both the valour of a protest song and the joy of dancing along! Join hands with us to peel the layers of stories tucked safely inside the onions of plays grown indigenously by Indian playwrights. 

This Sunday we will Read Vijay Tendulkar's The Vultures,
The play The Vultures (Gidhade) (1971) deals with the issue of violence and sex. The theme is built on a middle class milieu, through interactions in a hopelessly divided family. Violence and evil are the main elements in the play. The scenes of violence, the illegitimate sexual relations, and the abusive language shocked the sensibility of the conventional audience. Ramakant and Umakant are greedy characters, their father is a degenerate and their sister Manik’s gross sensuality—all add up to a naturalistic depiction of those vulture aspects of human character. All these characters show the fundamental evil inherent in human character.
